When Work Works

When Work Works is a nationwide initiative on workplace effectiveness and workplace flexibility that is designed to share research on what makes work “work” in the 21st Century. It is a project of Families and Work Institute sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, in partnership with the Institute for a Competitive Workforce (an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce) and the Twiga Foundation.

This year, hundreds of organizations applied for the 2011 Sloan Awards. Since 2005, the Sloan Awards have been recognizing model employers of all types and sizes across the U.S. for their innovative and effective workplace practices. In partnership with the Families and Work Institute and The Institute for a Competitive Workforce, The Twiga Foundation acts as a liaison to key stakeholders in selected communities to build capacity on how to address the issue of flexibility in the workplace. Twiga is helping to build a broader leadership constituency for workplace flexibility within each community by working with public and private sector business executives, owners, manager and leaders.

In 2005, The Twiga Foundation, Inc. was created as a non-profit corporation dedicated to inspiring, promoting and maintaining a family-consciousness at home, in the workplace and in the community. The Twiga Foundation is currently working in partnership with the Families and Work Institute of New York and the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce, to promote the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility in communities across the country.
